Community rallied for couple after October fire

Dear editor,

On Oct. 15, about 9:15 p.m., we had a fire break out in the garage/shed portion of our game house which spread very rapidly through the attic into the whole building.

Needless to say, it was very traumatic for us, as well as some guests who happened to be in the game room at the time.

This letter is being written as a giant “thank you” to so many.

First, to the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department and Chief Herbie Vaughan, for their outstanding quick response, their professionalism, knowledge and courtesy they showed in fighting the fire.

Thanks to their extremely fast response, at that time of night, and their knowledge and training, the fire was almost totally extinguished within 30 minutes of their arrival.

Rockdale is extremely lucky to have such a dedicated and experienced fire department to watch out for us.

Next, we would like to thank Chris Dyess and Hoyt Todd with Germaina Insurance for all their help in assisting us through what we considered, at the time, a crisis.

They were always there for us when we had questions and even called several times to see if there was anything else they could do.

We also owe a huge debt of gratitude and praise to Charles Bland and his company for what they did for us. They came in and tore down, hauled off, cleaned up and rebuilt our building back in less than two months.

A ll of Charles’s employees are A-1 in their particular skills and we couldn’t have asked for nicer and more polite people to be around.

It was such a pleasure doing business with Charles. He is honest, definitely knows his business and you can trust what he says, so we had no reservations in whether he would do a good job for us.

The rebuilding turned out beautiful. They did a fabulous job in making it as good, or better, than before. You would never know there had been a fire.

Last, but not least, we want to thank all our friends and neighbors that came to our assistance. Everyone tried and offered to help us out in any way they could, which was so heartwarming.

We are so grateful to have such caring friends and neighbors.

We thought at first this was a crisis in our lives but it has actually turned out to be an enormous blessing.

It really opened our eyes to what a great community we live in and how lucky we are to be here.
