Facing a shortfall of one million dollars in state funding for 2012-13, the Rockdale ISD is looking towards personnel reductions, and other remedies, to deal with next school year’s budget.

$30,000 f0r downtown plan
City debates MDD funding of project
Rockdale City Council members approved a $30,000 downtown master plan Monday, after a lengthy discussion.
The vote was 4-0 with council member Joyce Dalley abstaining. She and Mayor Larry Jones voiced concerns about the expenditure, to be funded by the city’s Municipal Development District (MDD). Full Story
Too hot, too dry, two-oh-eleven
It could have been even worse.
The year just past was the hottest on record in the 87 years weather records have been kept in Rockdale.
It might have been the driest, too, if not for one little factor.

MISD students out on Monday
Milano ISD students will have no school on Monday, Jan. 16. It is a staff development day throughout the district.
Milano PATCH Club, the district’s parent-teacher organization, will hold its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12 at the elementary school. All interested teachers and parents are encouraged to attend. Full Story
Minus Mitchell, Lady Tigers send Smithville packing
Drake’s free throws with 8.6 seconds left lift Rockdale to win
Trailing by three points with a minute to go and with leading scorer Velma Mitchell on the bench with five fouls, the prospects for winning seemed to be slipping away.
However, the new and improved Rockdale Lady Tigers were not to be denied as Victoria Drake’s free throws with 8.6 seconds remaining to be played lifted them past Smithville 34-33 Tuesday night at Tiger Gym. Full Story

For the past 14 seasons, hope has sprung eternal for the Rockdale Tiger basketball team, it has too, because that is how long it has been since a Tiger basketball team has posted a winning record or made a playoff appeaance. Full Story
Budget deficit snatches powerlifting
Staring into the heart of a shortfall of one million dollars in state funding for at least the next two years, the RISD has taken measures to trim the budget and one of the programs to receive the axe was powerlifting.
