Pistols from murder scene recovered in Rockdale arrest

  Two pistols which were believed to be at the scene of the slaying of a 50-year-old San Gabriel woman were recovered in Rockdale on Friday as police investigated a sexual assault of a child case and made an arrest.
 Larry Morris “June Bug” Sandles 39, of Rockdale was arrested when he returned to his home in the 500 block of East Cameron. Lt. J. D. Newlin said police had been searching for Sandles most of the morning after it was reported he attempted to get into a vehicle with the nine-year-old female who had reported an ongoing sexual assault situation the previous night.
 Newlin said three pistols were recovered at the house including two which were believed to have been on the scene of the murder of Sandra “Sandy” Phillips April 25, 2011.
 Deputy Sheriff Chris White said neither pistol was used in the murder. Mrs. Phillips was killed with a shotgun.
 White said one pistol was taken from Mrs. Phillips and the other is believed to have been carried onto the scene by one of the two men who was charged with the murder. Tanner Aaron Baker and Brandon Charles Cotton are awaiting trial.
 Sandles was charged with continuing sexual abuse of a young child, unlawful possession of a firearm, tampering or fabricating physical evidence and possession of  a controlled substance (under one gram).
