2012 will be a great year for Milam County
We are adding some new features to The Reporter just to keep our readers on their toes.
I am very excited to tell you that well known speaker, author and financial advisor Dave Ramsey will be sending us a weekly column called Dave Says, starting next week. This week he sent us a letter of introduction and a bio on page 6C. He gives very down to earth, sensible advice.
We have already added a Food page and have gotten many positive comments from you. We started out running it once a month and we will start featuring it more often.
If there is something you would like to see on that page, please email your suggestions. So far, more recipes is the biggest request and we are going to do our best to get you more.
One of our Food pages for February will, of course, be centered around Valentine’s Day, February 14. Not just because it is the most romantic day all year, but to serve as a reminder to all of you out there who don’t ever remember it.
I have to call a certain brother every year to remind him that it’s Valentine’s Day. I also have to call him in April to remind him that it’s his anniversary. I won’t mention his name because I don’t want to embarrass him but I can tell you that his wife is just as bad as he is about remembering so I usually have to call her too. Oops, did I give it away? Darn!
For our February/Valentine’s Food page we want to have an article about celebrations. What do you and your Sweetie (or Sweeties) do to celebrate the day? Email me and we will include it in our article. Just include your first name and how long you have been with your significant other.
Or if you have a special Valentine celebration with your kids, then send your first name and any info you want for your kids, such as first names, if they are sons or daughters, their ages, it’s up to you. I don’t want any blood shed over this article.
Do you celebrate with flowers, a card, candy, jewelry, a special dinner or all of the above? Here is an example of what I am sharing:
“My favorite gifts I got for my two girls each year for Valentine’s Day were fudge covered strawberries, yummm! Of course, I got myself some too and said they were from the girls! I knew they were probably too busy to remember to get me anything. I’ve always tried to be thoughtful that way.” – Kathy, 2 daughters
“My husband is actually the more thoughtful one of the two of us, he gets me flowers and a card every year and takes me out to a romantic dinner somewhere, if not that day then that next week-end. In turn, I let him live with me the rest of the year.” – Kathy, married 5 years
See how easy that is? You can’t do it wrong, everyone’s story will be different. Email me at firstname.lastname@example.org
We also want to have a Spanish language page. Like the Food page, we want to try it out once per month. There is an ad on page 2B that tells people where to send their ideas and what they would want to see on this page. My sister-in-law Noelia is going to help me with the Spanish.
I know there are a lot of people in Milam County, or their parents and/or family members, who speak spanish as their first language and would love to read the news and ads in Spanish. If we get enough response, we will do this page more often.
Every day gives us a new opportunity to make our lives even better than they already are. Together, we can make this a great year for Milam County.
