Trailing by three points with a minute to go and with leading scorer Velma Mitchell on the bench with five fouls, the prospects for winning seemed to be slipping away.

Budget deficit snatches powerlifting
Staring into the heart of a shortfall of one million dollars in state funding for at least the next two years, the RISD has taken measures to trim the budget and one of the programs to receive the axe was powerlifting.
The Rockdale ISD is also looking towards personnel reductions, and other remedies, to deal with next school year’s budget. Full Story
Eagles aiming for a repeat performance in district
No. 8 Milano begins quest for another title
MILANO—The No. 8 Eagles basketball squad will begin its quest for another district title as 27A play begins on Friday at Geneva Paceley Gym as they host Thrall.
Milano is picked to win its district again and claim its second straight league championship. Last season’s playoff appearance was the fourth for the Eagles in the last 12 seasons. Full Story
Lady Dogs perfect in district
No. 9 Thorndale flow to 6-0 league record
The No. 9 Thorndale Lady Dogs continue to roll through District 27-2A play and will close out the first round of league action this week.
On Tuesday night, the Lady Dogs (21-2, 6-0) got a tough 38-31 road win at Rogers.
Thorndale led 22-15 at the half and was able to hold on to that lead. Full Story
Bulldogs remain unbeaten
Thorndale has won nine of its last 11
Riding the wave of a strong finish, the Thorndale Bulldogs shook off Rogers 48-29 Tuesday night on the road to remain perfect in district play.
The Bulldogs improved to 14-5 overall and are 4- 0 in District 27-2A and have won nine of their last 11 games.
Leading 20-14 at halftime, the Bulldogs outscored Rogers 28-15 in the second half to bury the Eagles. Full Story
Lady Eagles chalk up first district victory
The Lady Eagles (8-9, 1-1) even things up as they began District 27A play last week on the road.
Milano (8-9, 1-1) topped Granger on the road Tuesday night 57-35.
Kelly Wadlington topped all scorers with 18 points.
Emily Overall and Raighley Shaw followed with 11 points each. Elizabeth Holt led the team in rebounds with seven and Shaw had seven steals. Full Story
