Planning meeting set for Johnson benefit
A meeting to plan a fund-raiser and benefit for the family of Karl M. Johnson will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 25 in the Citizens National Bank community room in Rockdale.
Johnson, 51, died suddenly Nov. 23 of a heart attack while working in Louisiana.

RPD Officer of the Year program ahead Jan. 28
The sixth annual Rockdale Police Department Officer of the Year program will be held Saturday, Jan. 28, at the KC Hall.
Doors will open, and a silent auction begins, at 6 p.m. with a catered meal served at 6:30 and the ceremony at 7:30.
A dance, featuring The Crossroads, will go from 8 p.m. to midnight.
Tickets for the event are priced at $15 and must be purchased, in advance, by Friday at the police station. No tickets will be sold at the door.
Ofc. Adam Assaker will be honored as officer- of-the-year with Ofc. Steven Cooper as runner up.

Fire calls dispatched during the past week through the Rockdale Police Department dispatcher were listed as follows:
• 12:16 a.m. Thursday, carbon monoxide alarm, CR 450, Thorndale VFD.
• 12:08 a.m. Friday, faulty heat strip in air duct burned small section of insulation, 700 block of Middleton, Rockdale VFD.
• 12:54 a.m. Friday, small grass fire next to Alcoa Lake Training Center, Rockdale VFD.
• 10:46 a.m. Friday, Thorndale VFD called to controlled burn, CR 440.
• 3:10 p.m. Friday, Gause VFD called to controlled burn, CR 264.
• 2:31 p.m. Saturday, grass fire spreading into a pasture, FM 908 northwest of Rockdale.
Bailey benefit ahead Jan. 28 at The Ranch
A benefit to assist longtime Rockdale-Thorndale area resident Andrea Bailey is set for Jan. 28 at The Ranch.
Activities include a morning motorcycle run, chili supper, live auction at 1 p.m. and music by Scott Leonard.
Bailey has been diagnosed with stage III-B cervical cancer and has no medical insurance.
Registration for the benefit motorcycle run starts at 9:30 a.m. with the first bike out at 11 and last bike in at 4 p.m., according to organizer Charles Starr.
Fee is $20 per rider, $25 for rider and passenger.

DWI won’t impact trustee’s eligibility
A member of the Rockdale ISD board of trustees was charged with driving while intoxicated (DWI) Sunday, but the charge won’t result in disciplinary action by the school board.
Lin Perry, 37, of Rockdale, was arrested for DWI by State Trooper Broderick Sims. Perry posted $1,500 bond and was released.
Supt. Dr. Howell Wright said state law and board policy does not allow for any suspension or investigation of a board member due to a DWI charge.
Park, P&Z boards plan meetings on Thursday
Two Rockdale city boards will meet on Thursday.
The Planning & Zoning Commission will meet at 3 p.m. at City Hall, followed by the park board at 6 p.m.
Chris Dyess is on both agendas to discuss the downtown master plan. He will also discuss the comprehensive master plan with the P&Z Commission.
Skywarn program set Monday in Cameron
A Sky warn severe weather program will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Cameron Volunteer Fire Department.
The program is held in partnership with Milam County Emergency Management.
The free program trains participants as weather spotters and is conducted by the Fort Worth National Weather Service office.
Black Jack VFD plans chili meal, cake auction
The Black Jack Volunteer Fire Department w ill host a chili supper and cake auction Feb. 11 at the fire station on FM 908 between Rockdale and Caldwell.
Serving begins at 5 p.m. with the cake auction at 6.
Supper tickets are $6 for adults and $4 for children 2 to 12.

MCAD meeting moved to January 26th date
CAMERON—Next meeting of Milam County Appraisal District (MCAD) directors is set for 12:15 p.m. Jan. 26, according to Chief Appraiser Pat Moraw.
Directors meet at the MCAD headquarters, 120 North Houston in Cameron.
City water line flushing scheduled for Thursday
The Cit y of Rockda le w ill flush water lines in all areas of town after midnight Thursday, according to City Manager Kelvin Knauf.
Knauf reminded water customers to run their cold water taps until the stream runs clear upon arising the next morning.
