The Tigers c apt ured t heir eighth in a row and 11th out of their last 12 by running past Giddings 65-50 Tuesday night on the road.

Rockdale improves to 15-7 on the year and are off to a 2-0 start in District 23-3A.

The Tigers sit stop the early distric standings with Navasota (13-9, 2-0) which they face Tuesday in Navasota.

The 15 wins represents just the third time since 1997 that a Rockdale team has won at least 15 games—the last time the Tigers have made the playoffs.

Rockdale cruised out to a comfortable 48-29 lead after three periods of play and had to stave off a late Giddings (7- 9, 0-2) comeback when the Buffaloes stampeded for 21 points in the fourth quarter, but still came up short.

Senior Zach Garza turned in his best game of the season with 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting.

William Dean added 11 points and despite being held to four points, Cody Skubal logged eight rebounds, seven assists, three blocks and two steals.

The Tigers host Caldwell on Friday.

Opener

In its previous two outings, Rockdale had shot 51 and 58 percent from the floor and the Tigers continued their f lame shooting as they doubled up LaGrange 66-33 in the district opener Friday at Tiger Gym.

Rockdale just missed out on hitting the 50 percent mark against the Leopards (7-8, 0-1), sinking 26-of-53 shots from the floor.

“ I thought our ef for t was outstanding— diving for loose balls—and we had close to 20 assists as a team (for) unselfish play,” said Rockdale Coach Dusty Loewe, who now has 493 career wins. “We will need this effort in every game we play in order for us to be successful.”

The Tigers started out strong, holding off LaGrange 21-17 in the first quarter.

Defense kicked in in the final three periods as Rockdale limited the Leps to just 16 points the rest of the way as the Tigers continued to pour it on offensively.

Mitchell canned 17 points, including three treys.

Skubal recorded his 10th double double of the season with 13 points and an equal number of rebounds along with six assists.

David chipped in one of his best outings with 15 points and eight boards.
