Filing starts Monday; photo IDs required for voters under new state law in 2012
County and state candidates may not yet know when they will actually go before voters, thanks to an ongoing redistricting squabble, but that’s not the case with the city, school and hospital districts.

Assaker named ‘officer of the year’
12 points separate first, second in closest competition to date
First-year member of the Rockdale Police Department, Ofc. Adam Assaker, did two things not usually associated with a “rookie.”
Last April he made a capital murder arrest, not something which happens routinely in Rockdale.
And Saturday night he was named the department’s officer of-the-year for at the annual awards banquet. Full Story

Speedster sticks with first school that showed interest
While Texas and Oklahoma St. were chomping hard at the bit to throw a last-gasp recruiting rope around Daniel Brooks, he listened to his heart and remained loyal to the school that first showed they cared.
Brooks officialy inked a letter of-intent to play football at the University of Oklahoma next season Wednesday morning in RHS Gymnasium. Full Story

Tigers open second round leaping Leps
Blue is solidly in second place in district race
Focused solidly on the playoff horizon, the Rockdale Tigers made a statement as the second half of district play began.
Holding off a pesky LaGrange team, the Tigers collected a key road win, 53-50, Tuesday night to kick off the second round of District 23-3A action.
The Tigers are 18- 8 on the season and 5-1 in district, trailing Navasota (17-9, 6-0) by one game. Full Story

Busy spring time ahead in our town
