Busy spring time ahead in our town

I hope all enjoyed the rain like I did. It is nice to see patches of green around town. It is a reminder that even in the harshest of conditions, like we experienced this last summer, we will survive. I appreciate all the kind words via calls, texts and emails during the past couple of weeks. Rockdale has always been there for me in times of need. Just another example of what a special community we truly are.

There are a few events coming up that I want to make sure you have on your calendar.

Rockdale’s annual Tejas Festival is in full planning mode. Make sure you make plans to attend this annual event the first weekend in March to experience the arts at their finest. We will have authors throughout the weekend at the schools and the Lucy Hill Patterson Library as well as artists showcasing their work at the First Baptist Church Family Life Center on Saturday. Rita Kirkman will be conducting her “workshop for artists” on March 1-2. We will also have activities at the Wolf Park Pavilion and IG&N train depot throughout the day on Saturday. Please call the chamber for details or go to our website at www.rockdalechamber.com.

The Milam County Festival and BBQ Cook-off is set for March 23-24. This event will be at the Fair Park and will include a carnival, Full House Karaoke and a rib eating contest on Friday night. There will be arts and crafts vendors under the pavilion and food vendors on Saturday. More details on this event to follow. Please call the chamber at 446-2030 or go online to www.rockdalechamber.com to book your team for the cook-off or to sign up as a vendor.

The Rockdale Chamber of Commerce and Rockdale Rotary Club will co-sponsor our annual shredder project from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 24. The cross shredder will destroy all materials on site. Individuals shred free. Businesses will be charged $.16 per pound. No big binders (plastic or cardboard) or large clips please. For more information or if you know you will be participating please sign up by calling the Chamber.

The Chamber is also planning our annual banquet. If you have a business, citizen, or organization you would like to nominate for an award, please call the chamber.

The Chamber has two ribbon cuttings this week. We would like to welcome Josie O’s Catering and The Piano Bar to our chamber family. Hope you all have a safe and happy week. Deedra Jacob is the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce president. Email her at djacob@rockdalechamber.com or phone 446-2030
