Board members endorsed a salary increase for Dr. Wright “equivalent to the raise received by the Rockdale ISD staff last fall.”

In August, 2011, the board approved a staff pay increase equivalent to two percent of the median two steps on the district salary schedule.

That number for teachers was $917.60. That pay raise did not apply to Dr. Wright.

One week previously to the August action, the board had frozen pay, suspended the teacher salary schedule and merit pay plans, citing budget concerns related to an ongoing shortfall in state funding.

Dr. Wright was hired on a three-year contract in 2009 to replace longtime superintendent Walter Pond.

His contract was extended by one year in 2011 and now is set to expire in 2013.

Dr. Wright’s salary had not been adjusted since 2010.

Du r ing Thu rsday ’s closed special session, RISD trustees discussed the superintendent’s goals, the instrument by which he is evaluated, reviewed his performance and also discussed his contract.
