Ex-city councilman seeks return

Fisher tosses hat in ring; Miller passing up ballot in 2012

A former Rockdale city council member, who lost his position by 10 votes two years ago, was the first person to sign up for the May 12 city ballot as filing got under way Monday.

Tom Fisher threw his hat in the ring for the west ward seat currently held by longtime councilman Allan Miller, who told The Reporter he was passing up the 2012 ballot but might consider running next year.

Fisher served on the city council for two terms, from 2004 to 2010. In 2010 he lost to Toby Johnson 230 to 220 in one of the closest council races in years.

Miller has served on the council for 14 years. He was first elected in 1998 to fill the unexpired term of Wallace Jones, who was elected mayor in the same election.

Term of east ward council member Willie Phillips is also expiring in 2012.

City candidates may file weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through March 5 at City Hall.

SCHOOL BOARD—The Rockdale ISD board of trustees also drew a candidate on Monday when incumbent Mike Pruett filed for re-election to his Place 1 position.

Terms of Pruett and Place 2 trustee Wayne Fisher are expiring this year.

Rockdale ISD school board candidates can file weekdays from 7:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. (4 p.m. on Fridays) at the Central Administration Building.

HOSPITAL DISTRICT—No filings have yet been reported for the Rockdale Hospital District.

Terms of incumbents Dr. Lucille Estell and Karolyn Puccio are expiring this year.

MILANO—Milano ISD voters will fill four slots, two three-year terms and a pair of one-year terms.

The resignation of board president Margaret Plentl (see story below) created a one-year vacancy to be filled in 2012. Milano voters will also fill a one-year unexpired term now held by Lynette Taylor who was appointed last year.

Three-year terms to be decided are those currently occupied by board members Alden Crowe and John Yakesch.

Terms expiring on the Milano City Council are those of Mayor Billy Barnett and council members Carol Newman and Jerry Hall.

Through Tuesday, no one had yet filed for any of the Milano school or city offices. Filing for both is at the Milano ISD superintendent’s office.

THORNDALE—There have also been no filings through Tuesday in Thorndale elections.

In the Thorndale ISD, terms of trustees Ann Glenn and Dave Denny are expiring. Filing is in the superintendent’s office.

Terms of city council members Jack Willis, Gerald Niemtschk and Sam Pickett are expiring in 2012. Filing is at City Hall.
