Mardi Gras ‘Dixieland’ set Feb. 18
The first of five Kay Theater Foundation productions this spring will “laissez les bon temps roulez” (let the good times roll) at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 18 when the Patterson Center will be transformed into a New Orleans Mardi Gras, complete with Dixieland music.
Scott Bailey’s Second Line Jazz Band will perform.
“ Mardi Gras is the following Tuesday, so this is a perfect occasion to celebrate before the beginning of Lent and to kick off a great season of entertainment for Rockdale.” Leanna Applegate, Kay theatre board member, said.
The Kay is serving beignets and coffee to top off the evening in true Louisiana style.
It’s the first of five events this spring to benefit the 1940’s-era quonset hut style theatre, which is being renovated as a performing arts-civic venue.
Tickets are $ 30, or season tickets for all five events can be purchased for $125, Applegate said.
Tickets are available at Elements at Main, 219 North Main, and from any Kay Theater Foundation board member. Call 512- 446- 6500 or 512-446-7278 for further information.
Tickets may also be purchased on-line at www.outhousetickets.com.
Applegate said last minute ticket sales are discouraged because of space, food and drink requirements but The Kay will attempt to accommodate. Other events are:
• March 3 dinner at Rockdale Intermediate School with a reading of the play “Photographs of a Cheating Wife” and scenes from two other plays.
• March 25 matinee at the Patterson Center with pianist Glennie Scott and vocalist Judy England.
• April 20 piano concert with Rockdale native Jason Brown, also at the Patterson Center.
• May 5 concert at the Patterson Center with the 16-piece Chamber Vocal Ensemble of Prairie View A&M University.
