Praesel

Funeral services for Henry Alvin Praesel, 88, of Rockdale were held Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2012, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home with Rev. Luther Shelander and Doug Springer officiating. Burial followed in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Rockdale.

Mr. Praesel died Thursday, Feb. 2, at Scott & White Hospital in Temple.

He was born Feb. 25, 1923, in the Gay Hill community to Carl A. and Mary A. (Wilhelm) Praesel.

Mr. Praesel had lived all of his life in Rockdale and Milam County and attended school at Gay Hill.

He married Opal Marie Willard on Feb. 26, 1944, in Caldwell.

Mr. Praesel was a crane operator at Alcoa for 25 years, retiring in 1978. He was also a farmer and rancher.

He was a member of Rockdale Full Gospel Church and he believed in helping people in need and his passion was his vegetable garden.

Mr. Praesel was preceded in death by his wife, Opal on Feb. 18, 2007; two sons, Larry Praesel and Dwight A. Praesel; a son-in-law, David Matthews; six brothers, Arthur, Carl, Albert, Oscar, Ernest and Floyd Praesel; and four sisters, Dora Polzine, Louise VonGonten, Annie Pelzel and Emma Sieloff.

Survivors are two sons, Craig Praesel and wife Catherine, Keith Praesel, all of Rockdale; a daughter, Cindy Matthews of Rockdale; a daughter-in-law, Melanie Praesel of Caldwell; a brother, Lawrence Praesel of Hitchcock; a sister, Mary Aline Bounds of Austin; a sister- in- law, Estelle Praesel of Rockdale; and eight grandchildren, Eric Matthews, Lee Matthews, Amanda McClean, Dena Praesel, Cody Praesel, Chance Praesel, Caitlin Praesel and Caleb Praesel; also, seven great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Justin Praesel, Cody Praesel, Chance Praesel, Ron McCoy, Eric Matthews and David Lee Matthews.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
