While blood rivals Rockdale and Taylor were reluctant to pencil each other in on their respective schedules, the University Interscholastic League stepped in and took care of that minor detail.

Cagers reign over Giddings to end post-season drought
The Rockdale Tigers had an odd request for their coach on Friday night.
They wanted to know if they defeated Giddings, could they cut down the nets.
Now such sacred ceremonies are reserved for celebrations of championships as the season concludes, not with three games remaining on the schedule. Full Story
UIL realignment: if it makes sense, it doesn’t happen
When it comes to the University Interscholastic League’s bi-annual district realignment, Temple coach and athletic director Mike Spradlin was quoted recently as saying, “The only thing that scares me is when it makes the most sense, it doesn’t happen.”

Lady Tigers close out with victory
17 wins is the most by cagers since 2005
While the Rockdale Lady Tigers season ended much sooner than they intended, the program took a giant leap forward by posting some impressive numbers.
The Lady Tigers KO’d Caldwell 52-17 Tuesday night in the season finale at Tiger Gymnasium to complete the prog ra m’s be st se a son i n almost a decade.

Dogs join playoff fray
After a one-year absence, Thorndale back in post-season
Thorndale found out it was going back down to Class A this week in the UIL’s bi- annual realignment.
However, before they go the Bulldog basketball team wanted to leave an imprint in their current classification.

No. 6 Milano cruising thru district, clinches loop title
Eagles have won 22 straight en route to second straight crown
The No. 6 Milano Eagles clinched their second straight district crown with an 89-32 road win over Bartlett Tuesday night.
Milano (26-1, 8-0) still has two games left on its district schedule but have gone undefeated in league play and are far enough ahead in the district standings to claim the title. Full Story
Perfect: Lady Dogs close out loop schedule without a loss
Thorndale racks up 8th title in nine seasons
The No. 6 Thorndale girls basketball team closed out an undefeated district schedule in route to the 27-2A championship with a 54-50 double overtime win at Lago Vista on Tuesday night.
Lago Vista hung with the Lady Dogs (29-2, 14-0) every minute until the final overtime. Full Story

The Class 3A cutoff increased from 430 to 450 and topped out at 1,004.
Rockdale turned in an enrollment of 474 and were a little bit closer to slipping down to Class 2A than it thought.
At 474, Rockdale is by far the smallest school in the new district and one of the smallest Class 3A schools in the state. Full Story
In the neighborhood
Concerning neighboring schools, Thorndale dropped back down into Class A after two years in Class 2A.
The Bulldogs will be grouped with rival Thrall, Flatonia, Holland and Weimar in District 13A-Division I. Full Story
Lady Eagles just miss out on playoff berth
The Milano Lady Eagles (10-14, 3-5) saw their dreams of a spot in the playoffs and season come to an end with a 43-38 loss at Bartlett (4-4) on Tuesday night.
The win gives the Lassies a third place finish and the final playoff spot for District 27A.
Thrall (8-0) was undefeated in league play to claim the district crown, with Holland (5-3) finishing second. Milano was fourth. Full Story
Youth baseball holding signups every Saturday in February
Rockdale Youth Baseball Association will hold sign ups each Saturday through the month of February.
Leagues are available for ages 4-14. Tryouts are mandatory for all division except 4-yearold T-ball.
Cost is $60 per entry. Opening ceremonies are scheduled for Saturday, March 31.
Sign ups will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 11 at Brookshire Brothers. Full Story
