Contest night set March 5 at Ben Milam Elementary

March 5 is the date set for the County Contest Night at Ben Milam Elementary School in Cameron. 4-Hers wanting to compete in district for the following contests will need to enter the March 5 contest. They are: roundup presentations, Share-the-Fun contests and fashion show.

Start now preparing for your presentations for the county contest night. Details on contest opportunities are available in the January 4-H newsletter or contact the Milam County Extension Office. Entry forms are available on the county website http://milam.agrilife.org/.

MCJLS DEADLINES—Youth from kindergarten through high school can enter the Milam County Junior Livestock Show Home Economics Department. Rules for the 2012 MCJLS home economics department are available at the extension office website or at the office in Cameron.

Home economic entry forms and fees will be accepted at the “animal entry” nights as well as at the extension office. All entries and fees must be received by Feb. 21. It is your responsibility to read the rules.

The home economics show will be conducted on Friday, March 30 at Bea’s Kitchen in Cameron. All animal entries must be submitted at an entry night. Attending one of the three entry nights is required to turn in entry forms, entry fees and to ensure that all the required information is included for all livestock entries for the March show. Please note that each exhibitor will be required to provide a social security number with each entry eligible for the auction.

Entry nights will be held from 4-6 p.m. on: Feb. 14, Thorndale Ag Science Classroom; Feb. 16, Rockdale Ag Science Classroom; Feb. 21, Youth Exhibition Building.

In addition to the entry dates listed above, participant planning to show broilers or rabbits need to remember the following dates.

Broiler pick up is set for 4-5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15 at the YEB in Cameron.

Market bunnies will be tattooed from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 21, also at the YEB.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
