‘We Served’ at Lions Pancake & Bacon Supper

I f yesterday was Fat Tuesday and this is Wednesday, then why am I still fat?

Oh, I know why. The Rockdale Noon Lions Club held our annual Pancake and Bacon Supper fund-raiser last night and we all agreed, it was a great success.

And of course, we all had to sample the fare.

This was the second year we held our annual Supper at Busy Bea Cafe and Bakery.

The Pancake batter was compliments of the “Star” of Busy Bea, Becky Booker Marek. Of course, being the “star” means she’s also the chief cook, cleaning lady, greeter, wait person, janitor, bookkeeper, secretary, accountant and several other job titles, as any one who is “self-employed” knows.

Special thanks to Busy Bea and employees for the great accommodations and all of your help.

Lions Allan Miller, Mike Pruett, Ron Montgomery and Paul Dixon took turns being the pancake chefs.

Don Thompson and Lew is Wynn made bacon and sausage all night.

Lions Jim Currey, Wanda Galbreath and Billy Galbreath did a wonderful job taking up tickets.

Carrie Berry, April Eshberger, Gloria Thrasher, Albert Jordan, Randy Fletcher and myself did everything from dish up, pouring, packing and “gopher-ing.”

Lion Terri York had a Touch of Elegance catering job in Bryan but she was in charge of ordering all of our products and delivering it to Busy Bea and we thank her for that. She’s one of our hardest working Lions at every event plus she caters our meetings.

We also want to thank Charlie at KRXT for talking up our events on the radio.

And most of all, thank you to all who came and ate pancakes with us or took plates to-go.

Your support helps the Lions pay for eye glasses and exams for needy children in Rockdale.

So far for 2011-2012, the Lions have provided exams and glasses for 23 children. And the year is not over yet.
