Kitchen herbs topic for Crown Garden Club

Members of the Crown Garden Club and two guests met at the home of Peggy Cooke for a February salad luncheon with Jean Haupt co-host. During the meal, members discussed herbs and spices used in the dishes in keeping with the theme of the meeting, “Kitchen Herbs.”

Mrs. Cooke discussed making herb gardens in different ways and gave each member a pamphlet on kitchen herbs and their uses in cooking.

Secretary/treasurer Martha Newman reported that the club contributed a total of $1,500 to charitable organizations such as Rockdale Christian Services food pantry, Christmas Roundup, Rockdale MDD for Rockdale Gateway markers, and to Williamson County for seed balls to be used in reforestation of the burned areas in and around Bastrop.

Door prizes were won by Nancy Marburger and Mrs. Newman. Roberta Pounders was welcomed as a new member. Mrs. Marburger presented new yearbooks and she will host the March club meeting.— Peggy Cooke, reporter
