Tigers go down swinging in bi-district loss
SCHULENBURG—It had been nearly two decades since a Rockdale basketball team had proven playoff worthy, so the players that were responsible for the resurgence, wanted to leave their mark.

Hempstead prevails in wildand wooly affair
GIDDINGS—The Thorndale Bulldogs were determined to get back to the state playoffs after a rare one-year absence, but deter mi nat ion wa sn’t enough to overcome an off night.
It was one and done for the Bulldogs as they fell 75-57 in bidistrict action to Hempstead at Buffalo Gym to end their short lived return to the state basketball playoffs. Full Story

Bell Rivals Tournament
The fifth annual Bell Rivals Tournament gets underway Thursday with its unique format of being hosted by two schools, Rockdale and Cameron.
Ten teams will participate in the two-town tournament including Taylor, Salado, Navasota, Troy, Smithville, Lufkin Hudson, Giddings and Robinson. Full Story
The Tigers got off to a great start by edging the defending Class 2A state champion Cam- eron Yoemen 9-7 Monday night at Yoe Field in the season opener.
Rockdale fought back twice from deficits of 2-0 in the first inning and 6-5 in the fourth after the Yoemen put up four runs. Full Story
Lady Tigers suffer first loss of season
ROGERS—The Rockdale Lady Tigers suffered their first loss of the young season with a 10-2 setback to Rogers on the road.
Morgan Fischer and Amanda Boyd accounted for the Lady Tigers’ two runs, while Kayleigh Montelongo clubbed a double.
Montelongo (1-1) absorbed the complete game loss. Full Story

Lexington breaks open 6-6 game with eight runs
The Milano Lady Eagles softball team opened up its 2012 campaign with a 16-8 loss to Lexington on Monday at the Milano ISD softball field.
The team was suppose to open the season at the Hempstead Tournament over the weekend, but the event was cancelled due to wet field conditions. Full Story

Karl to compete for a spot on Olympic team

MILANO—Milano High School’s National Honor Society and Student Council groups are joining together to sponsor the “Race to the Oak Trees Milano 5K” on Saturday, March 31.

Youth baseball holding final signup Feb. 25 at Walmart
Rockdale Youth Baseball Association will hold sign ups each Saturday through the month of February.
Leagues are available for ages 4-14. Tryouts are mandatory for all division except 4-yearold T-ball.
Cost is $60 per entry. Opening ceremonies are scheduled for Saturday, March 31.
Sign ups will be held from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Feb. 25 at Rockdale Walmart. Full Story
Rockdale Girls Softball to hold try outs Wednesday, Feb. 29
Rockdale Girls Softball League will hold try outs on Wednesday February 29, starting at 6 p.m. for all age divisions.
Age Divisions: T-Ball (age 4- 6), Coach Pitch (age 7-8), Midget (age 9-10), Freshman (age 11-12), Junior (age 13-15).
“Players can still sign up during the February 29 tryouts,” according to Courtney Paulsen, spokesperson. Full Story
