Finally! Filing resumes for ballot

More candidates sign up for May 29 election

A San Antonio federal court jumpstarted the dormant Texas political season last week, ordering primaries for May 29 and setting a new filing “window” which expires at 6 p.m. Friday.

Milam County candidates are already jumping at the new opportunity with two Democratic candidates and one Republican signing up for commissioner posts Monday and Tuesday, according to County Chairs Richard Stone (D) and Bill Whitmire (R).

Andy Jackson of Rockdale filed Monday for the Precinct 3 commissioner position being vacated by Democrat Dale Jaecks, Milam County’s longest serving elected official.

Republicans John L. Fisher and Odes Foster are vying for the GOP nomination.

Ricky McCall, former mayor of Buckholts, signed up Tuesday for the Democratic nomination as Precinct 1 commissioner.

Chuck (Tank) Balch of Cameron filed Tuesday in the Republican Primary to oppose Precinct 1 Commissioner eorge Tomek.

Tomek, who was elected as a Democrat, is seeking re-election as a Republican.

GOP PROSPECTS—Whitmire told The Reporter he expects more Republicans to file before the Friday deadline.

Randy Rodriguez, who did not file during the original filing period which ended Dec. 19, subsequently announced that he would be a candidate for Precinct 1 constable.
