Cowboy Church to hold annual team roping at Fair Park Sunday

The Milam County Cowboy Church we holt is annual team roping on Sunday, March 18 at the Rockdale Fair Park arena, spokesperson Daniel Garrison has announced.

The day will start with a church ser v ice at 9 a. m. w ith guest speaker David Key.

He is a native of Caldwell and was the College National Finals Rodeo Team Roping Champion in 1988 when attending Tarleton State University. Key joined the PRCA in 1989 heeling.

In 2000 he switched ends and started heading. He has made the National Finals Rodeo nine times as a header. In 2008 he reached a million dollars in the PRCA earnings.

The Pro-Am team roping will start at 11 a.m. and will feature local amateurs teamed with professional ropers. Saddles, buckles, breast collars and prize money will be awarded to the Amateur Headers and Healers.

An open roping will take place immediately following the Pro- Am.

“Last year we had several past world champions in attendance and we are expecting an even better turnout this year,” Garrison said.

“Since it is the day after the Houston Rodeo finals and the Austin and San Antonio Rodeos are just starting, all of the best ropers are in Texas and most w ill be at this roping.”

The roping events will conclude with a #11 slide roping. Buckles will be awarded to the average winners. For more information, contact Garrison at 979-255- 8642.
