New Chamber team takes over
Chairperson Becky Booker Marek, chair-elect Lindsay Cleveland and treasurer Michelle Morgan all resigned last Wednesday, citing “time constraints.”
By Friday morning, Chamber board members had appointed a new set of officers from the current slate of directors.
Debra Jackson takes over as chair person, Mike Walko as chair- elect and Bob Wilson as treasurer.
NOTICE— Deedra Jacob, Chamber president, said also, executive assistant Shelley Stautz has given her two weeks notice and will leave her position.
That’s a paid job administered through the Chamber.
Jacob said she began interviews to fill the soon-to-be vacant position on Monday.
INSTALLED—The resigned slate of officers had been installed in the Chamber’s annual membership meeting Jan. 12 and were to have served for one year.
The resignations came 10 days before the Chamber’s first Milam County BBQ Cookoff (see story above) and two weeks before the annual Chamber banquet, set for March 29.
Cleveland was a new director, installed in the January meeting, while Morgan was a holdover director.
VACANCIES—Chamber directors are to fill a vacancy on the Chamber board when they meet April 12, Jacob said.
The appointment of Wilson has filled one of the two director vacancies created by last week’s resignations.
Jacob said there were only two vacancies because Marek had already rotated off the board before beginning her year as Chamber chair.
Directors are elected in an annual ballot of Chamber members.
Other holdover Chamber board directors are Mitul Patel, Cyndia Ingram, Pat Watson, Cindy Jerman, Joyce Ford, Bob Stephens, Hunter Matula, Jackson, Walko, Dave Phillips and Jenny Lehmkuhl.
Rebecca King is associate director, representing the Rockdale ISD.
