Photo courtesy Milam County Sheriff’s Department A traffic stop for speeding in Milano Friday afternoon led to a misdemeanor marijuana possession charge being filed against a Dayton man and the seizure of cash and a vehicle.

Deputy John Mendoza made the stop, then arrested Russell Ray Romero. “He was acting nervous and later admitted to having marijuana in his truck,” Chief Deputy Chris White said.

White said when Mendoza was unable to explain why he was carrying $8,000 in cash, the sheriff’s department decided to file an affidavit with the prosecutor’s office to seize the cash and the vehicle, a 2002 GMC Sierra pickup.
