Sifuentes

Sifuentes Sifuentes HEARNE— Born April 12, 1929, in Hearne, to parents Jose and Edubina (Calderon) Sifuentes, Julian “Julio” Sifuentes went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 20, 2012, in Temple after a brief illness.

The doctors that treated him each remarked about how rare it was that Julian didn’t have a medical history. He never had a hospital stay, surgery, or serious illness, prior to his passing. His mind was still sharp and he loved to tell stories about his childhood and his job. He could still walk around unassisted.

He loved to eat out at the local eateries, help at the church food pantry and attend church on Sundays. He was able to live in his own apartment, a block away from his son in Rockdale, until the time of his illness. For these accomplishments, we thank God.

Julian was a longtime resident of Hearne.

He married Romalda Martinez of Hearne in 1955 and raised three children: Mary Jane, Ralph and Mary Christina.

Julian retired from the City of Hearne in 1994 after many dedicated and faithful years of service. His knowledge and expertise of the city’s water systems was unsurpassed.

After retirement, Julian kept close to his children and grandchildren in Bryan and Rockdale. He resided a short time in Dallas and Rockdale with his family.

Julian was know n for his trademark style of clothing—dress shirt, suspenders, dungarees and Fedora hat.

He loved his coffee and was famous for his secret homemade barbecue sauce.

In his earlier years, he enjoyed playing the accordion. Also, being a self taught carpenter, he enjoyed restoring old furniture and houses.

Julian was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Romalda Sifuentes; infant daughter, Mary Christina; and brothers, Celso, Vicente, Eusebio and John Sifuentes, all of Hearne.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Jane and Robert Chavez Sr. of Mesquite; a son, Ralph and Denise Sifuentes of Rockdale; two brothers, Delfino and Ada Sifuentes and Domingo Sifuentes and Stella Dodson of Hearne.

He is also survived by five grandchildren, Heather Chavez, Stephanie Chavez, and Robert Chavez Jr. and wife Kristie of Mesquite, Nicole and husband Eric Gimon of Rockdale and Jerod Sifuentes and Roseann Ojeda of Austin; five great-grandchildren, Anthony, Lydia, Mia, Michael and Brendon.

Visitation was held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home in Hearne.

A rosary was recited at 7 p.m. Friday evening.

Services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 24, 2012, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hearne with Father David Leibham officiating. Interment followed at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Hearne.

Pallbearers were Pete Sifuentes, Joe Sifuentes, John Sifuentes, Jr., Michael Bates, Marcus Sifuentes, Steven Sifuentes, Robert Chavez, Jr., Jerod Sifuentes and Eric Gimon.
