Veteran led Rockdale back to playoffs
Vowing to return Rockdale back to the playoff promised land, Dusty Loewe accomplished the feat and is now calling it a day.
Loewe is retiring after 34 years on the sideline and leading the Tigers to their first winning season and playoff appearance since 1997 this past season.

Brooks’ recovery time is a long distance affair
Oklahoma signee Daniel Brooks is recovering nicely after tearing his knee up at the Rockdale Relays March 1.
Brooks had his surgery March 13 in Norman performed by The Oklahoma medical staff which will also handle his rehab, which could force him to miss part or all of the 2012 season. Full Story

Tigers fight off Giddings to get back in win column
Timely hitting, sharp Brinkley pitching fuel win
After being shutdown by LaGrange on Saturday, the Rockdale Tigers returned to their winning ways Tuesday night by edging Giddings 5-4 at Tiger Field.
Playing their third game in seven days, the Tigers improve to 14-6 on the season and 2-1 in District 23-3A.

Tigers run fifth at Eagle Relays
Br ink ley, Woolverton capture firsts
LEXINGTON—Emily Brinkley and Koltyn Woolverton both showed heir prowess in the heaving lifting events, taking first place in the shot put and discus respectively at the Eagle Relays Thursday afternoon.
The Rockdale boys were fifth in Lexington with 56 points behind winner Giddings’ 145 total. Full Story
Kovar is new head coach in Normangee
Has been in Rockdale for past six years
In another Tiger coaching move, John Kovar will become the new athletic director and head football coach at Normangee.
He is the only candidate for the job and should be approved by the Normangee school board when they meet April 2. There were eight final candidates, but Kovar is the only name sent to the board. Full Story

Former Tiger coach Spano dead at 76
Former Rockdale coach Charles Spano has died at age 76 after a battle with cancer.
Spano was a part of Fred Johnson’s staff in the late 1970s and early 1980s as defensive coordinator.
Spano was a Navasota native and played football at the Universit y of Alabama.
His son Kyle was an All- State lineman at Rockdale in 1981 and is currently a coach at Lake Travis. Full Story
Rotary scholarship golf tourney set for April 7
Rockdale Rotary Club’s 20th annual Mike McFalls Memorial Scholarship Scramble golf tournament will be held Saturday, April 7 at Rockdale Country Club.
Homer Mowdy, director, said entry fee is $70 and includes green fee and two mulligans. A maximum 72 players will be entered.
Registration will start at 8:45 a.m. and tee time will be 9:15 with a shotgun start. Full Story

Milano returns five starters off quarterfinals squad
The Mila no Eag les a re in regrouping mode af ter their regional quarterfinals appearance last season.
After losing a handful of starters to graduation and taking a hit to its bullpen, Milano will look to just six returning from last year’s roster, plus three sophomores who didn’t play last year and seven freshman to try and reach the post-season again. Full Story

Thorndale still fine tuning its game as district race heats up
Bulldogs in a fiveway tie for third in league play
The Thorndale Bulldogs are still fine tuning their game as they hang around with the rest of the District 12-2A elite.
There is a five-way tie for third place in the district, which is topped off by Jarrell at 5-0 and Cameron at 3-2.

Milano gets back on winning track; Thorndale still struggling in district
Lady Eagles chalk up first league victory
Milano got back on the winning track Friday as the Lady Eagles took down Bartlett on the road 13-3 in District 27A. The girls are now 5-9-2 on the season and 1-3 in league play.
Milano will travel to Granger on Friday to face the Lady Lions who are winless in district play.
The team will open up the second round of loop play when they travel to Thrall on Tuesday. Full Story
