Lady Tigers foiled by late inning rally from Caldwell

Reporter/Cliff Dungan Catcher Britni Newlin stops Caldwell from scoring another run in the Lady Tigers’ 7- 4 loss Friday. Reporter/Cliff Dungan The Rockdale Lady Tigers couldn’t hold on to an early lead and fell to caldwell 7-4 in District 23-3A action.

The Lady Tigers grasped a 4-1 lead heading into the fifth inning when the bottom fell out, with Caldwell (6-6, 2-2) posting three runs in the fifth and sixth inning to snag the 7-4 victory.

The game was sw itched to Rockdale after heavy rains left Caldwell’s field unplayable.

Rockdale used doubles from Montelongo, Vest and a triple from Mireles to build up the early lead.

Montelongo and Boyd both went 2-for-4 with an RBI each.

Montelongo (10- 8) took the loss, allowing 10 hits and three walks, while sitting down seven batters.

The L ady T igers t ravel to Smithville (3-13, 1-3) on Thursday to start the second round of distrct action. They host league leader LaGrange (17-5, 4- 0) on Tuesday in a pivotal game.
