Matous elected chief by Rockdale firefighters
Warren “Dude” Matous, who resigned the chief’s position on the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department because of job-related duties, was elected to that position Tuesday by the department.
“ The only reason he stepped down in the first place was because he was going to be out of town most of the time,” current Fire Chief Herbie Vaughan, said. “He’s now back in town and we welcome him back as chief. I’ve certainly got enough to do.”
Vaughan is also Precinct 3 constable, city fire marshal and a candidate for sheriff.
Matous’s election is effective May 14 and is for a two-year term, Vaughan said.
Ward Roddam remains first assistant chief and James McQuinn was elected second assistant chief Monday.
