Silver Spurs Spring Jam scheduled for Saturday
The Silver Spurs, alumni association at The University of Texas, will hold its second annual Spring Jam Saturday at Apache Pass.
Gates open at 12-noon. Appearing will be Cory Morrow, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Emory Quinn and Krause.
There will also be a barbecue cookofff. A limited number of tickets are available at the Apache Pass Icehouse. For more information, see the ad on page 3A.
La Escuelita cookoff ahead on Saturday
The annual spring cookoff benefitting La Escuelita, just east of the KC Hall, is set for Saturday.
Dee Lerma, spokesperson, said cookoff entries are brisket, pork, chicken and beans. Entry fee is $15 per category.

Other activities include a noon horseshoe tourney, arts and crafts and food for sale at 11:30 including brisket tacos, sausage wrap, beans and baked goods.
Rockdale VFW Post sets BBQ cookoff Saturday
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6525 will hold its spring cookoff Saturday at the post home, US 79 at the western city limits.
Categories are beef, chicken and ribs with 100 percent of entry fees going to prize money.

Dewberry Jam Run set April 21 at Veterans Park
The 13th Alpha Tau Delta Dewberry Jam 5K-10K Fun Run/Walk, is set for 8 a.m. April 21 at Veterans Park.
In the past 12 years, the walks have raised $72,000 for local park projects.
Entry blanks for the event are included as an insert in this week’s Reporter.
A 1K children’s run begins the morning’s activities at 8 a.m., followed by the 5K-10K event at 8:30.
Kids age divisions, boys and girls, are 5-and-under, 6-7. 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13.
Men’s and women’s divisions are 16-and-under, 17-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70-and-over.
Packet pickup is 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, April 20, at the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce.
RVFD $11,000 giveaway ahead Saturday, April 21
The Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department’s annual fund-raiser, with an $11,000 credit card as first prize, is set for Saturday, April 21, at the KC Hall.
Second prize is $2,500.
Mike Korenek, RVFD spokesman, said doors open at 5 p.m with a catered meal by Lee’s Landing at 6. Music will be by Scooter Dubec and Sterling Country Band.
Korenek said all tickets have been sold but those interested can call Dwayne David, 446-7328, or himself at 446-6577, to be put on a waiting list.
Thorndale Cleanup Day ahead on April 28th
April 28 has been designated as cleanup day by the City of Thorndale.
IESI disposal will pick up trash and a few “bulky items” Friday, April 27, and will return the next day for the remaining bulky items.

Fund-raisers planned to benefit Place of Hope
The Rockdale Knights of Columbus will hold “Another Fish Fry” from 5-7:30 p.m. Friday at the Rockdale KC Hall.
The “1st annual Hope Night” fundraiser will be held on Saturday, April 28 at Downtown Cafe, 118 S. Main St. in Thorndale. Buffet opens at 6 p.m. There will be a live auction, silent auction and live Gospel music. The Place of Hope ladies will be busing tables for tips.
All proceeds from both fundraisers benefit Place of Hope, Pregnancy Resource Center.
Milam GOP county convention Saturday
CAMERON—Milam County Republican Chairman Bill Whitmire has announced that the 2012 county convention will be held at 10 a.m. April 14 at the Milam County Courthouse.
Purposes of the convention are to choose delegates and alternates to the state convention, and to consider resolutions or statements on policy issues.
As a result of the substantial changes to the election calendar in 2012, the Milam Republican Party will not be conducting precinct conventions on the evening of the May 29th primary election and will incorporate all party business into the county convention, he said.
Democratic Convention April 21 at courthouse
The Milam County Democratic Party will hold its county convention at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 21, at the courthouse, according to Richard Stone, chairman.
Stone said there will be no precinct conventions May 29 (primary day).
“The redistricting battles have pushed the county convention back to just a couple of weeks before the state convention,” he said.
Stone said the county convention is open to all voters who registered within 30 days of the convention and signed an oath of affiliation with the Democratic Party.
City flushing water lines overnight April 18th
City of Rockdale crews will flush water lines overnight April 18, according to City Manager Kelvin Knauf.
Knauf said lines will be flushed in all areas of town and asked Rockdale residents to run their cold water taps the next morning, upon arising, until the stream runs clear.
City council workshop planned for Thursday
Rockdale City Council members will meet in workshop session at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at City Hall.
Only agenda item is to discuss a possible nuisance ordinance for the City of Rockdale.
Jason Brown concert
A piano concert by Rockdale native Jason Brown, to benefit the Kay Theatre, is set for Friday, April 20, at 7:30 p.m.at the Patterson Center.
Tickets are priced at $30 and are available at Elements at Main, 219 North Main, or online at www.outhousetickets.com.
The concert is one of five events to raise funds to renovate the former theatre, Davilla at Main.
