Truck collision blocks US 79

No injuries were reported but a collision between two 18-wheelers blocked traffic on US 79 for about two hours near the CR 360 intersection west of Milano just after midnight Monday.

Falls County State Trooper David Grote, who investigated, said a northbound truck rig driven by Glenn Johnson, 52, of Bossier City, Louisiana, pulled over to the highway’s right shoulder at 1:40 a.m. when the truck trailer was struck by another 18-wheeler, driven by 60-yearold Mahmoud E. Mahmoud of Dearborn, Michigan.

Grote said the Johnson rig sustained only minor damage and was driven from the scene, while extensive damage was reported to the Mahmoud 18-wheeler’s tractor.

Milano and Rockdale VFDs responded. The highway reopened at 1:55 a.m.
