Farm pond management clinic set April 24

Landowners who are interested in learning about ways to improve their farm pond should make plans to attend the Farm Pond Management Clinic that will be held at the Rockdale General Store meeting room from 6- 8pm Tuesday, April 24.

Dr. Michael Masser, fisheries specialist, will present a comprehensive program on farm pond management.

Due to the prolonged drought and recent rains, many landowners may be considering restocking ponds following the drying up of many of these ponds, and subsequent loss of fish population.

The program will emphasize understanding of how fish eat and the aquatic food chain and the importance of all components. Stocking strategies will be discussed as well as pond fertility and structure development.

Additionally, there will be a segment on identifying and treating aquatic weeds.

For holders of a TDA Pesticide applicators license, 1 hour General CEU will be offered. The cost of the program will be $10 and no pre-registration is required. Registration will begin at 5:40 p.m.

For more information, please contact the Milam County Extension Office at 254-697- 7045. Thanks to Rockdale General Store for the gracious donation of the use of their meeting facility.
