5th annual Tiger Booster Club tourney is May 5

Rockdale Tiger Booster Club w ill host its 5th annual golf tournament on Saturday, May 5 at the Rockdale Country Club.

The one day tournament will include a crawfish boil.

Teams w ill be posted at 8 a. m. w ith the first tee off at 8: 30. A sausage wrap lunch will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Another tee off is set for 1 p.m. and the crawfish boil is set for 6 p.m.

There is an $ 85 per person entry fee (which includes one meal ticket), additional meal tickets available for $20 each.

Players must be 18 years or older.

Prize money awarded to the first three places. Hole sponsorships available for $100.

Sign up for Thorndale youth hoops by Apr. 27

THORNDALE—Basketball is a wonderful sport that requires a great deal of time and effort to improve.

By signing up to play in leagues, and camps, you are sending a positive message that you want to improve.

Deadline to sign up for the Thor nda le Yout h basketba ll league is April 27 and cost is $40 per player.

Turn in application to your school coach. Teams are responsible for own jerseys.

Play dates are May 24 and 31 and June 7, 14, and 21 with two games per night, beginning at 5 p.m.

Games will be played at Thorndale High School and Thorndale Middle School.

Thorndale Booster Club holds fund raiser Apr. 28

THORNDALE—Thorndale Lady Dog athletics will hold a fund-raiser on Saturday, April 28 from 8 a.m. until sold out, at the intersection of US 79 and FM 486, Coach Lisa Coelho announced.

The group will be selling fajitas, sausage and chicken by the pound.

They will also be selling tickets for a 12-gauge shot gun; 10 to 12 pound brisket; 8 to 10 pound Boston butt; throw blanket; and 120-quart ice chest.

Tickets drawing will be held at noon that day.

Skubal selected to play in hoop all-star game

Rockdale senior Cody Skubal has been selected to play in the inaugural Central Texas Coaches All-Star Basketball game.

The game will be held at Pf lugerville Connally on Saturday, April 28 at 7 p.m.

The teams were chosen f rom a list of seniors nominated by their coaches.

The 6-foot-3 Skubal led the Tigers to a 20- 12 record and their first winning record and playoff appearance since 1997.

He averaged 12 points and 10 rebounds per game.

“ The game will not be your typical high school all star game. The players will be required to play hard and compete on both ends,” said game spokesman Marshall Sanders. “ There will be no show- boating. College coaches from every basketball program in Texas will be invited and we want them to be able to get a good evaluation of the players.”

Thorndale booster club golf tourney set April 21

THORNDALE— The 2012 Thorndale Athletic booster club fund raiser golf tournament will be held Saturday April 21.

Cost is $80 per player or $320 per four person team. Entr y deadline is April 12.

The tournament will be played at Star Ranch in Round Rock.

Parish named athlete of the week for Concordia

AUSTIN—Sophomore Jessica Parish of the Concordia softball team is the 32nd Taco Bell Athlete of the Week for the 2011-12 academic year.

She is receiving the award for the first time of her career.

Parish, a former Rockd a le resident, helped the Tornados sweep a fourg ame series against Hardin- Simmons for t he f irst t ime Parish in program history over the weekend.

She batted .615 w ith eight hits, including five for extra bases, to go along with six RBI and five runs scored.

The sophomore also slugged 1.231 and had a .706 on-base percentage.

Par ish’s best per formance came in the third game when she nearly hit for the cycle.

She went 3-for-4 with a home run, a triple, a double, three RBI and three runs scored in an 8-2 Concordia victory.

Parish, a kinesiology major, is the daughter of Helen and Richard Parish of Rockdale.

Grass Bash volleyball tourney served May 19

Lexington Homecoming Youth Rodeo May 5th

LEXINGTON—The LCTS 4-H will be hosting a youth rodeo Saturday of homecoming weekend at the American Legion Memorial Arena.

The 4th annual Homecoming Youth Rodeo will start at 7:30 p.m. Check-in/payup by 6:30 p.m.

Youth rodeo events include breakaway roping, pole bending, tie down roping, goat tying, ribbon roping, barrels, and chute dogging for ages 9 and under, 10-13, 14-18.

Free fun events for 7 and under will be a stick horse race. The signup deadline is Tuesday, May 1 via call in or postmarked mail.

There will be an extra fee for rodeo day signup. Negative coggins proof is required.
