Todd wins 11,000 first prize in RVFD event

Rockdale businessman Gordon Todd won the first prize, an $11,000 credit card Saturday at the KC Hall as the Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department held its annual fund raiser.

Floyd Byrd won the second prize, $2,500.

Mike Korenek, RVFD spokesman, said money raised during the fund raiser will go toward the department’s rescue truck.

CrimeStoppers seeking info on burglary, fire

CAMERON—Milam County CrimeStoppers is seeking information on the April 13 burglary and fire at the home of district judge candidate Norman Lanford in Cameron.

Anyone with information can call CrimeStoppers at 1- 888- 697-TIPS or the Cameron Police Department at 1-254-697-6574, Police Chief Randy Dixon said.

Thorndale ISD eyes ‘lone finalist’ meeting

THORNDALE—School trustees in Thorndale are inching their way toward naming a “lone finalist” to replace Supt. Casey Callahan.

Trustees met Tuesday in the district board room, for the latest in a series of canidate interviews and have another interview session scheduled for Wednesday, at 6 p.m.

Another special meeting is set for 6 p.m. Monday, April 30, at which the district could name the successor to Callahan.

Callahan is leaving the Thorndale ISD, after a three-year stint as superintendent to accept a position as assistant superintendent in the Llano ISD.

Fund-raiser planned to benefit Place of Hope

THORNDALE—The “1st annual Hope Night” fund raiser will be held Saturday at Downtown Cafe, 118 S. Main St. in Thorndale. Buffet opens at 6 p.m. There will be a live auction, silent auction and live Gospel music. Place of Hope ladies will be busing tables for tips.

All proceeds from the fundraiser benefit Place of Hope Pregnancy Resource Center.

Live auction items include an Austin Omni and Four Seasons hotel packages, Round Rock Express tickets, massage, manicure and facial packages, Rainbow Courts package and over 40 others.

MDD board set to meet Thursday at City Hall

Rockdale’s Municipal Development District (MDD) will meet in regular monthly session at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at City Hall, according to Tom Manskey, executive director.

Manskey said agenda items include acting on a project application submitted by several groups and a review of the district’s active projects list.

The board will also discuss a “community visioning” exercise to be held in conjunction with the board’s May meeting.

Work begins on next ‘Gateway Monument’

Work began this week on the second “Gateway Monument” at the eastern entrance to Rockdale on US 79 just east of the US 79 overpass.

The first monument was decjcated Feb. 18 at the Us 77-FM 908 intersection at Coffield Airport.

There will eventually be for monuments, projects of the Municipal Development District.
