St. Paul Lutheran students fair well at spelling bee

Students at St. Paul Lutheran School made “spelling history” at their area 2012 Spelling Bee held April 12 in Walburg. The group from Thorndale finished second overall and missed first place by just three points. It was the best the school has done in 20 years of competition.

St. Paul entered 15 students this year. They were: Michael Herzog, Reina King, Ashley Pesl, Meagan Newton, Justin Ford, Lauren Newton, Mason Fisher, Logan Fisher.

Also, Logan O’Campo, Josh Iselt, Brandon Williamson, Kristi Becker, Peytyn O’Campo, Bradley Betak and Cheyenne Lanfear.

The entire team from third grade through sixth grade made it to the finals along with eighth grader Peytyn O’Campo.

Of those 10, f ive students received ribbons. Michael Herzog (third grade) and Lauren Newton (fifth) brought back first place ribbons. Reina King (third) earned a second place finish and Meagan Newton (third) along with Logan Fisher(sixth grade) finished with a third.

Teacher Corey Moss was the students’ sponsor and is recognized by the school for his hard work in preparing the students for the competition.
