School Board

Place 1 Jennifer Davenport

My name is Jennifer Kellar Davenpor t. I am a registered nurse currently running for Place 1 on the RISD school board this year.

I was raised in Rockdale and attended school here from kindergar ten until my graduation in May of 1993.

I returned to Rockdale in 2002 with the intent to raise my family here. I am marr ied and have four boys.

Pruett Pruett I currently have children attending school here in Rockdale on three dif ferent campuses in the first, eighth and ninth grades.

My purpose in seeking office is my strong desire to be a part of the educational process of our children.

I feel as though as a parent, I have not been included in many decisions regarding my children’s education over the past few years.

I would like to change that by helping keep the parents up to date and involved in the decision making process regarding their children’s education.

My goal is to advocate and be your voice when making decisions to incorporate the best educa - tion we can possibly give to our children.

I am willing to listen to the ideas from teachers and/or parents and stand up for what is right.

I would like to improve the communication bet ween the school board and the community and increase parental involvement.

Lovelady- Spain Lovelady- Spain I will fight for the students and give the parents a voice.

Thank you for your vote.

School Board

Place 1 Mike Pruett

Hello, my name is Mike Pruett. I am running for re- election for Place One in the Rockdale ISD School Board election.

I was born and raised in Rockdale and graduated from Rockdale High School in 1981. I have been a selfemployed insura nce agent in Rockdale since 1985.

I have been married to my wife, Pam Pr u - ett, for 23 years. We have been blessed with two children, Ashley, who is a junior at Sam Houston State, and Tyler, who is a freshman at Rockdale High School.

I am an active member of Peace Lutheran Church in Rockdale. I have served on the church council and other various committees within the church.

My civic activities included being an active member of the Rockdale Noon Lions Club, having served as club president in 2002- 03.

In late 2005, and early 2006, I served on the Rockdale ISD Citizens Advisory Committee for facilities, and also served as chairman of the financial sub- committee.

I ran, and was elected to, the school board in 2006. I ran again (unopposed) in 2009. I currently hold the position of secretary on the board.

Back in 2006, I stated that I think it is important to ask “why are you running for this position?” and “what can you offer to enhance the quality of our school system”. I still feel that way today.

I feel it is important to be involved where you live, and this is a way to give back to a community of which I am very proud to be a member.

The last six years, I feel like I have brought a degree of common sense and independent, level-headed, thinking to the decision- making process with which a board must deal. I do not feel an organization can accomplish anything worthwhile if it is divided, so I have always tried to consider all sides before making any decision.

Brummett Brummett It is certainly okay that we have our own opinions on individual issues, but I strongly believe, at the end of the day, the board must be pulling in the same direction in order to ser ve our constituents, which includes our students, teachers, administrators and taxpayers.

While there are many important aspects of being a board member, I strongly feel the academic achievements of our students should be a board member’s top priority. If one puts anything else above that, then we are there for the wrong reasons and will have shor t- changed our students.

After reading this, if you feel like I am the type of person you want to continue to serve your school district, then I respectfully ask for your vote on May 12.

Tom Fisher Tom Fisher May God bless you.

School Board

Place 2 Dr. Fannie Lovelady-

Spain

My name is Dr. Fannie Lovelady- Spain and I am running for Place 2 for the Rockdale ISD Board of Education.

I am a proud product of the Rockdale school system and I believe that every child deserves the best education that we can provide.

As a school board member, I will support policies that promote high expectations, high standards, fairness and safety for both students and staff.

Having been a teacher, prin - cipal, Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) superin- tendent and CA State Department manager with 40 years’ experience, I am thoroughly aware of the many challenges our schools face today.

Phillips Phillips With decreasing fiscal resources, we must find more effective strategies in which to serve our children. I believe our children deserve the best educational experience possible.

We have all the tools necessary to provide our students a top-notch education; we need only the will to do so.

I would like to become your school board member so I can say yes to policies that support our children first.

I hold the following qualifications and experience for this position:

• Published research articles in professional educational journals.

• Founder of the Fannie Page Lovelady Foundation, a non- profit organization, designed to train high school and college students in leadership development.

• Served community as Rockdale city councilwoman ( 2002-2005), member of the 10th Texas Silver- Haired Legislature, member of Milam County Historical Commission, the Rockdale Music Club, the Lions’ Club and numerous other organizations.

Thank you for your vote.

School Board

Place 2 Troy Zinn

My family has lived in Rockdale for 10 years where I own my own accounting business.

I am a board member of the Rockdale Youth Baseball Association and a member of the Knights of Columbus.

As a father with children on three of the four campuses, I will have a child in the RISD for the next 12 years, giving me a vested interest in the long- term quality of our district.

I strongly believe in education coming first.

Our education system must provide a safe and challenging environment to allow our children to grow to be productive and responsible citizens and that the school board and administration must be the best stewards of resources that they can be.

I bring to the school board nearly 20 years of accounting, budgeting, project management and business management experience having been the chief financial of ficer, controller and human resource director for private and publicly traded companies.

I understand the need to balance the limited resources that are available. RISD will be facing some very difficult decisions concerning those resources, whether they be of a financial or human nature.

These upcoming decisions require someone who can keep the focus on the best for the students and staff of our schools.

I will take into consideration input from the students, parents and community when making those decisions.

I am that person and I encourage all registered voters to get out and vote in this election.

City Council

East Ward Donald Brummett

Hello fellow citizens of Rockdale.

My name is Donald Brummett and I would love to represent our city by having your vote for the east ward seat on the city council.

I am the general manager of the Days Inn here in Rockdale. I will work hard to help make Rockdale become a pla ce where people love to come.

I have two main objectives that I want to work on.

1. Jobs. We need to do everything we can to identif y companies that are looking for a central loca - tion for their business and Rockdale is geographically very viable for this.

2. Water. We as a city need to provide clean quality water with minimum disruptions of service to our residents and businesses. Without this, prospective businesses can be reluctant to locate here.

If these two objectives are to be met - it will take everyone in Rockdale to come together and work with pride in the city towards a common goal.

Together, Rockdale can and will become great. I welcome anyone to come by and see me and talk over any issues mentioned.

Please get out and vote, early voting starts Monday April 30, so there’s no reason to wait. I thank you in advance for your suppor t and thank all of you that go to the polls.

The more people that vote, the stronger the voice.

You can e-mail me at electdonald brummett@yahoo.com.

I am seeking election to represent all members of our town. I want to help make Rockdale an even greater place and help pave the decisions for the future.
