The 100,000 square feet retail chain, located at 709 West US 79, was issued a permit totalling $283,152 to remodel the store and another $3,000 permit for a sign remodel.

The supercenter store opened in March 2005 after moving from a much smaller building in the Way-Mar Plaza. Walmart has had a store in Rockdale since 1979.

Numbers were up for the month, with $61,300 in permits issued in March.

April’s numbers bring the fiscal year’s total, which started in October 2011, to $539,039.

The 2012 calendar year total is now at $443,989. April’s numbers were more than half what the grand totals were for the fiscal and calendar years thus far.

Permits are issued at City Hall and reflect only construction in the city limits.

Besides the two Walmart projects, permits for April were also issued to: Larry White, 612 Rice, porch 10x20; Windham Roofing for Kenneth Elliott, 2107 Murray, reroof; Windham Roofing, 506 Ackerman, reroof; Randy Patranella, 703 Burleson, move home from 708 Vernon.

Also, Butch Malone for Caroly n Ostendor f, 720 Green, reroof; Fernandeo Gonzalez, 130 N. Main, demolish building; Buchanan Construction for Angie Lara, 427 W. Davilla, remodel.
