Prairie View A&M choir to ‘sing for the Kay’ Saturday at Patterson Center

Taylor Taylor The Prairie View A&M University Vocal Ensemble, directed by A. Jan Taylor, will conclude a springtime fiveevent series of Kay Theatre fund raisers with a concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Patterson Civic Center.

Tickets are $ 30 and can be purchased at the Rockdale Chamber of Commerce, Elements at Main (219 North Main) or from Kay Theatre board members. “Some tickets may be available at the door,” Leanna Applegate, event spokesperson, said.

“The ensemble will perform a variety of musical styles, including traditional, jazz, gospel and a bit of Texas country,” Applegate said.

“The group was established in 2007 and specializes in vocal jazz,” Applegate said. “Its repertoire has now expanded to include all genres of vocal music suitable for a chambersized ensemble.”

Applegate said Milam County native Dr. Danny Kelley, dean of the Prairie View A&M College of Arts and Sciences, was instrumental in arranging the performance.
