Awards given out at annual FFA banquet


Rockdale Police Department officer Tommy Shriver recieved his Honorary Rockdale FFA Chapter Degree from sentinel Traci Fisher at the group’s annual banquet held May 1 at RHS. Other awards were handed out and the new FFA officers recognized. Other awards were handed out and the new FFA officers recognized. The Rockdale High School FFA Chapter held its annual banquet on May 1 at RHS with an evening that included a barbecue dinner and awards.

Thebanquetisatimeto recognize those students that have stood out and excelled in their activities throughout the year. This year a record 48 Greenhands, or first year members, received their respecitve degrees.

Justin Offield, son of Mike and Wendi Offield, was named 2012 Star Greenhand.

Twelve chapter candidates received their degree. A lso named were Star Chapter Farmers Cierra Pomykal in Agriscience and Kaden Roberts in Entrepreneurship.

Honorary Members were also inducted into the chapter. Honorary members included Rockdale Police Department Officer Tommy Shriver and FFA advisor Amanda Grigsby.

Appreciation awards were handed out to those that have helped the Rockdale FFA chapter succeed this year. Those recipients were: Debra Neal, Christy Betchan, Mike Offield, Kevin Roberts, RPD Lt. J.D. Newlin, Cheryln Ellis, Janiece Lee, Kenneth Pomykal, Homer Mowdy, Danny Ramirez, RHS principal Joseph Geletka, RHS assistant principal Brent Hasselbach, Jocelyn and Rodney Lew is and the Rockdale Ag Boosters.

The Dekalb Award was given to senior member Heather Atchley for her hard work, dedication and loyalty to promoting agriculture.

Senior member Matt Reline was named outstanding member for the chapter for his efforts in promoting the chapter to the community and his hard work in raising money through fundraisers.

P rof icienc y Awa rd s were given to Samantha Muston for Poultry Production, Madison Reynolds for Specialty Animal Production, Koy Quinney for Swine Production, Maci Wages for Ag Mechanics Design and Fabrication and Jacob Parsley for Ag Mechanics Maintenance and Repair.

Follow ing awards, senior officers presented their retiring speeches reminiscing their times with the FFA chapter and providing words of inspiration to the younger members.

Rockdale FFA officers for the 2012-13 school year will be: Erin Free, president; Cierra Pomykal, vice president; Justin Offield, secretary; Ryan Walker, treasurer; Jon Machac, reporter; Koy Quinney, sentinel; Ramsey Zinn, student advisor.
