Decision day for city, school races

Saturday election will seat two council members, two Rockdale ISD trustees

Rockdale city and school voters will head to the polls Saturday to decide four contested races.

It’s a combined election. Balloting for both entities will be at City Hall from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

There has been ward redistricting since the last city election but that won’t affect where voters go Saturday since all voting is at City Hall.

That was also the location for early voting which ended Tuesday with a total of 265 voters casting early ballots.

CITY—In the west ward race, former councilman Tom Fisher is opposed by Colby Fisher.

Tom Fisher was defeated by 10 votes in 2010 as he sought a third term.

The west ward seat is being vacated by Allan Miller, who chose not to run for re-election.

In the east ward, incumbent Willie Phillips is seeking a fifth term. He is opposed by Donald Brummett.

SCHOOL—Place 1 incumbent Mike Pruett is seeking his third term on the board.

He is opposed by Jennifer Kellar Davenport.

Place 2 incumbent Way ne Fisher passed up the 2012 ballot. Vying to replace him are Dr. Fanny Lovelady-Spain, a former Rockdale City council member, and Troy Zinn.

HOSPITAL BOARD—There is no Rockdale Hospital District election in 2012.

During the filing period three persons signed up for the three positions on the 2012 ballot, allowing the hospital board to cancel the election.

Incumbent Dick Burns will return to his at-large position, while Karolyn Puccio will return to her Place 4 (west ward) seat.

Incumbent Dr. Lucile Estell did not file for re-election to her Place 2 (east ward) position on the hospital board.

Filing for that post was Gerri Offield, a former city council member.
