Junior is a ‘quiet threat’ to everyone she faces
Rockdale track coach Stephanie Miller told Emily Brinkley in the seventh grade that she was going to take her to the state meet someday.
That premonition will come true Saturday when Miller escorts Brinkley to the 101st UIL State Track Meet to compete in the Class 3A shot put.

Milano goes shaving to finish fourth at state meet
Eagles slice 24 strokes off first round total
AUSTIN—First day nerves were shaken by the time the Milano boys golf team began the second round of play at the UIL state golf tournament at venerable Lions Municipal Golf Course.
The quintet shaved 24 strokes off its first-day total to finish tied for fourth in the final standings at the par-71, 6,001-yard “Old Muny” course Thursday and Friday. Full Story

Soaring Garza represents Eagles; speed is the thing for Dawgs
Milano senior pole vaulter Brandon Garza will return to the state track meet for the second straight year as Region IV champion in the event.
Garza is set to compete at 9 a.m. Friday at Mike Myers Stadium in the Class A boys pole vault.
The lone Milano participant in this year’s meet, Garza cleared 13- 0 feet to win the regional meet. Full Story
Lady Tigers place seven on all-loop
Led by first-team selections Victoria Drake, Britni Newlin, Kayleigh Montelongo and Marissa Mireles, the Rockdale Lady Tigers placed seven players on the All- District 23-3A team.
Two sophomores who played prominent roles on the team, third baseman Kayla Deary and outfielder Amanda Boyd were selected for the second team.

Our latest journey had us heading once again to Louisiana to see what this New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival is all about, which gave us another opportunity to see our generation’s spokesman, Bruce Springsteen.
