Local blood drives ending

A Rockdale tradition, dating back more than a half-century, is ending.

“I have been informed by the Red Cross that they will no longer conduct blood drives here,” Jo Pruett, volunteer coordinator, told The Reporter.

The Red Cross closed its Bryan office several months ago and moved everything to Dallas,” Pruett said. “They have decided it’s too expensive and too hard on their personnel to drive from Dallas to Rockdale,” Pruett said.

In recent years, Peace Lutheran Church hosted Rockdale blood drives. “We thank everyone for their support through all these years and decades,” Pruett said.
