Dawgs mine silver at state track meet
In a photo finish free-for -all in the 1,600-meter relay, Bulldog anchor man Steven McKendrick pushed his way into a silver medal behind East Bernard by 20/100ths of a second, 3:22.38 to 3:22.58.
Godley was third at 3:22.75.
The top four finishers in the race finished within 40/100ths of each other.
Eric Guzman, Colton Youngblood, Keon Mays and Steven McKendrick made up the silver winning team and in the process, broke their own school record of 3:23.96 that was set early in the season.
Thorndale (Tyler Miller, Seth Rutter, Youngblood and McKendrick) was seventh in the sprint relay at 42.67, behind Edna’s winning time of 41.75.
Rockdale’s Juan Rubio clocked in at 10:05.01 to finish eighth in the 3,200-meter run in his first trip to the state meet.
Another Tiger making her first appearance at the state meet was Emily Brinkley, who placed eighth in the shot put after measuring 36-04 on her best throw.
Kebbeh Dar polor of Pecos repeated as state champion with a throw of 42-06 1/2.
Milano pole vaulter Brandon Garza—making his second consecutive trip to the state meet af ter placing eighth in 2011—failed to clear the opening height of 12-feet.
Garza had captured first at the regional meet after clearing 13-feet.
