RISD to offer summer food program June 4-28

The summer months are all about fun and family activities. “Unfortunately, some children in our communities do not get the nutrition they need when there is summer break,” Kevin Cragun, RISD director of dining services, said.

The Summer Food Service Program, sponosred by the Texas Department of Agriculture, provides healthy meals at no charge to children age 18 and younger. To participate, just show up.

“We are mandated to provide free meals to the community where it has been determined through the National School Lunch Program that a majority of students there receive free and/or reduced priced meals,” Cragun said.

“You do not need to register or get meal tickets and no one will ask for proof of income or age,” he said. “Your children get the food they need to fuel up for summer fun so they can learn, play, and grow when they are not in school.”

All meals and snacks meet federal nutrition standards. They are free to anyone 18 years or younger.

Meals will be ser ved Monday through Thursday, June 4-28 at both the Rockdale High School and Rockdale Elementary School cafeterias. Breakfast will be served from 7:30 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. Lunch service will run from noon to 12:45 p.m.
