Junior-high promotes 116 in ceremony on Wednesday

Speeches by valedictor ian Emily Ibarra and salutatorian Travis Morgan highlighted the first-ever Wednesday promot ion exercise s for Rockd a le Junior-High School’s Class of 2012, at 10:30 a.m. May 23, in the junior-high gymnasium, according to Principal April Eschberger.

Ibarra posted a 4.2197 gradepoint average in her three-year RJH academic career. She is the daughter of Sergio and Rocio Ibarra.

Morgan’s average was 4.1229. He is the son of Scott and Torin Morgan.

Eschberger said averages of more than 4.0 are possible due to “weighted” honors courses. There were 116 eighth-graders being promoted, including 36 honor students.

Certificates were presented by Eschberger, assisted by Allen Sanders, assistant principal, and Angela White, counselor.

The processional, national anthem, RJH school song and recessional were presented by the Rockdale Junior-High Big Gold Band, under the direction of Lance Walker.

Carlos Sanchez opened the ceremony and Phong Vo led the pledge to the American and Texas flags.

Dustin Strelsky closed the ceremony.
