Hilarious example of strong will, determination

Neighbor Grover sez acupuncture is a jab well done. P eg and I drove up to Teague a short time back for the funeral of the 95-year-old mother of one of our closest friends in community newspapering. That friend would be Willis Webb whose well-crafted guest column livens up our op-ed pages each week.

It was one of those “easy” funerals for the ministers, in that the lady had been a stalwart, active member in First Baptist Church of Teague for 55 years, plus other Baptist churches before that during her long life in East Texas.

In fact, three ministers spoke at the service—her current pastor, a former long-time pastor, and a grandson.

It was the grandson who told a story that broke up the house and set the tone for this “celebration of life.” It was one of those stories you can just visualize happening.

Among the many great characteristics of this lady, he said, was “strong will and determination” regardless of the odds she faced.

To illustrate, he said the most impressive example of her strong will and determination occurred when she encountered another individual of equally strong will and determination, resulting in a mighty struggle.

“And it was grandmother’s strong will and determination that won out when she, after exhaustive effort, wrestled and pinned a diaper on a three-yearold grandson who had been potty trained and out of diapers for almost a year!”

Now, by gosh, that’s determination. Willis and his wife Julie later explained to us that grandma was supposed to diaper one of two brothers and simply got the wrong one.
