New record book forms are due June 21

The 4- H re cord book for - mat has been changed and improved for 2012. The new version is available on the record book website or you can complete a word version. Either format can be used for the 2012 4- H Record Books.

Throughout the spring, record bo ok training s were of fered to introduce the new format. Ha ndouts and addit ional information is available at the Extension Of fice or on the Milam County 4- H website, http:// milam. agrilife.org/.

4- H rec ord boo ks have new format for junior, inter med iat e and senior levels. Beginners can complete the jun ior for ms for county recognition. You must use the new forms for the 2011- 12 4- H activ ities. Your record book will start with the new forms for the current year. All pre viou s ye ars re cord book information will just be attached behind the current year. This will make record book preparation a lot easier. Start now so you will have a record book ready to submit for county judg ing on June 21. For additional information, contact the extension office at 254- 697- 7045.

Develop and store infor mation on the State 4- H dat a base. Get st art ed by fol lowing the ste ps listed. • Click on Member Login.

• Put in your family email (one you view on a regular basis) and a password . Clic k on set up a profile.

• All 4- Hers in the fam ily ca n se t up their rec or d book pa ges by opening the original and then saving the form with the 4- Hers name. • Keep up with your project activities. Wo rd ver sion for ms can be fou nd at ht tp:// texas 4- h. tamu . edu/ youth_ recordbooks. Develop an d save info rmat ion on yo ur computer.

BEGINNERS WORKSHOP— This is a special workshop for 4- Hers 5 to 8 years of age. You will be able to learn about a variety of 4- H projects and have fun meeting other 4- Hers from across the county. You will keep your hands busy with arts and crafts, cooking, gardening, games, cookie decorating and much more. Teen leaders and volunteers will be conducting the workshop.

If you have a friend that is thinking about joining 4- H, invite them to attend the Fun Day with you. Lunch and snacks will be provided. Parents are welcome to stay and join the activ ities. The Beginners Workshop on Saturday,

June 23 will be held at the Gause ISD Cafeteria. Doors will open at 9: 30 a. m. with activities running from 10 a. m. until 1 p. m. If you know you will be attending, call the extension office so we can prepare handouts and lunch. We will also hav e extras for some last minut e participants . Learn about 4- H on June 23 at the Beg inners Workshop. Wanda Lee and the Gause 4- H Club will be hosting the workshop.

LIVESTOCK PROJECT NEW S—Major liv es toc k show tag- in will be held 7- 9 a. m. June 26 at Arledge Feedyard on US 79 just west of Rockda le. Steers for the 2012 State Fair of Texas, Heart of Texas and 2013 Fort Worth, San Ant onio, Sa n Ange lo, Houst on and Star of Texas shows must be tagged- in on this date.

Steers for the Milam County Jr. Livestock Show can be tagged- in on June 26 or at the MC JLS Steer tag- in on Sept. 4.

Lamb s, go at s and sw ine for the 2012 State Fair of Texas show will also be tagged- in on June 26. These animals will be validated at the conclusion of steer validat ion. Remember, at val id ation your livestock project and a parent must be present to complete validation. If a parent is unavailable to attend validation, you mu st contact us beforeha nd to complete and sign additional paperwork. No animals wil l be val id ated without a parent/ guardian present or paperwork prepared beforehand.

Validation only validates ownership of the animal project. You will still need to enter your livestock in the respective livestock shows.

If you have not already ordered tags for the June 26 tag- in, you can order them from the Milam County Extension Office through Friday, June 8.

Turkey orders for MCJLS and 2013 major shows are due July 11. If you plan on showing turkeys at major shows or the MCJLS, you must place your order at the Milam Count y Extension Of fice by July 11. The cost of birds is $3.50 per bird. Contact the extension of fice for additional information.

Rockdale Fair turkey pickup date is June 20 at the home demonstration building at Fair Park.

Lamb, swine and goat tag- in for the Rockdale Fair is July 14.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
