Building permits down for the month

A downtown Rockdale busin ess is getting a $10,000 store f ront remodel according to building permits issued by Rockdale City Hall for the month of May.

The upgrades are to the Mehaf fey Building, 215 East Cameron Avenue, which includes Perry and Perry Builders.

Permit numbers were down for the month, with $312,614 in permits issued in April, which included an almost $300,00o remodel at the Walmart Supercenter.

May’s numbers bring the fiscal year’s total, which started in October 2011, to $587,388.

The 2012 calendar year total is now at $492,338.

Permits are issued at Cit y Hall and reflect only construction in the city limits.

Also, Manual Rivera Construction, Julio’s Restaurant, 1533 W. Cameron Avenue, 15x40 patio; Southwest Milam Water, 706 East Cameron Avenue, fence; Juan Cast illo, 1704 Mur ray, patio 31x14; Serapio Garza for David Pohl, 608 Green Street, reroof; Brady Nelson Jr., 713 Miller, fence.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
