Five-cent school tax hike forecast
RISD hit with 28% drop in tax values; enrollment down; 13 jobs being cut
Rockdale ISD continues to deal with a “perfect storm” of declining taxable values, enrollment and state funding with a 5-cent tax increase forecast for 2012-13.
Supt. Dr. Howell Wright said trustees continue to hold workshops on the budget, plan to adopt a spending plan by June 30 and set a tax rate in August or September. Full Story
Homecoming Sunday in Rockdale
Patterson Center site for 78th annual ‘welcome back’
The 78th annual Rockdale Homecoming will unreel Sunday in the Patterson Civic Center at Fair Park, according to Judy Slusher, president of the Rockdale Homecoming Association.
Homecoming events will begin at 9:30 a.m. with coffee and doughnuts for the early visitors.
There is no speaker.
Honor class will be the 50th anniversary Rockdale High School class of 1962. Full Story
Seven runoff races ahead for Milam voters July 31
In addit ion to “ The Big One”— Greene vs. Kouba for Milam County Sheriff—there will be six more primary runoff races for county voters to help decide on July 31.
Premier race is, of course, for sheriff. Incumbent David Green just missed an outright win May 29, polling 49 percent to 33 percent for Greg Kouba. Full Story
MCAD drops ‘county’ but refuses to be ‘MAD’
The Milam County Appraisal District (MCAD) has yielded to the wishes of county commissioners and is dropping the word “county” from its name.
But it won’t be “MAD” about it. The district has chosen the acronym “MilamAD,” with no space, to use as its abbreviated form. Full Story
