Homecoming Sunday in Rockdale

Patterson Center site for 78th annual ‘welcome back’

The 78th annual Rockdale Homecoming will unreel Sunday in the Patterson Civic Center at Fair Park, according to Judy Slusher, president of the Rockdale Homecoming Association.

Homecoming events will begin at 9:30 a.m. with coffee and doughnuts for the early visitors.

There is no speaker.

Honor class will be the 50th anniversary Rockdale High School class of 1962.

The RHS classes of 1941, 1954 and 1957 will also hold reunions at Rockdale locations during the homecoming weekend.

Several other RHS classes have announced reunions for dates later in the summer.

“The morning will be set aside for visiting and reminiscing about old times,” Slusher said.

Lunch, catered by Terri York Sandoval, will be served beginning at 12:30 p.m.

“Tickets will be available at the door and no advance tickets will be sold,” Slusher said.

Meal tickets are $10.

Slusher said the Rockdale Homecoming began in 1934. The Homecoming Association was organized in 1933.

Traditionally, the oldest and youngest in attendance are recognized during a brief program, along with the person attending from the furthest distance.

Other RHA officers are:

President elect, Gerri Offield; vice-president, Wilma Owens; secretary, Wenda Dyer; treasurer, Billie Noack; historian, RamonaBarlow;otherRHA board members are Cotton and Marie Hubert, Barbara Gross, Gary Jackson, John Rinn, Peggy Hosek, Dr. Lucile Estell.

Slusher invited all interesed persons to attend and stressed that Rockdale Homecoming is not limited solely to those who attended Rockdale High School.
