Killeen man dies in Rockdale crash

First 2012 road fatality in city limits

  A 20-year-old Killeen man became the first traffic fatality of 2012 inside the Rockdale city limits just before 11 p.m. Friday in a collision between a car and an 18-wheeler.

   Danzell Hickman was pronounced dead by Precinct 4 Justice of the Peace Gary Northcutt. Rockdale Police Ofc. Brandon Tess said Hickman was the only occupant of a 2001 Mazda which was in collision with an 18-wheeler driven by Jerome Kaska, 51, of Blessing.

   Location was the US 79-US 77 intersection, just north of the overpass near the eastern city limits. Police did not list serious injuries to the truck driver. The crash was reported at 10:41 p.m.

   Rockdale firefighters and EMS personnel also responded.

The burn ban for Milam County has been lifted. Burning is always prohibited in the county's municipalities.
