June rebate checks up for most of area
AUSTIN—Texas Comptroller Susan Combs sent out $514.1 million in June local sales tax allocations last week to cities, counties, transit systems and special purpose tasking districts. That is up 9.7 percent compared to a year ago.
Combs said that state sales tax revenue in May was $2.09 billion, up 7.3 percent compared to May 2011.
Tax rebate check totals for the City of Rockdale, Rockdale Municipal Development District and Milam County are all well above figures compared to this time a year ago.
Rockdale’s rebate check for June 2012 was $57,100, compared to $44,646 for June 2011, up 27.8 percent. The city is also up 14 percent for the year at $356,220.
Rockdale’s Municipal Development District received $26,875 for June, up 25.8 percent from a year ago. The MDD’s yearly total now sits at $163,975, up 18.2 percent.
Boundary lines for the MDD were re-drawn in 2010, but the account for the old boundry lines also received a rebate check this month for just over $103. This most likely due to some deliquent taxes being paid, a Rockdale City Hall employee said.
Milam County’s check for June was $97,821, up 29.1 percent from $75,755 a year ago. The county sits at $600,225 for the year, up 22 percent.
The sales tax figures represent monthly sales that occurred in April.
STATEWIDE—“This marks 26 consecutive months of sales tax growth,” Combs said. “As the recovery continues, the year-toyear rate of growth is stabilizing.”
Texas cities received $337.4 million, up 8.2 percent compared to June 2011 and an increase of 8.1 for the year.
Sales tax allocations to counties are running 12.8 percent ahead of this point in 2011, with $34.3 million going out to them in June. Counties allocations are up 13.9 for the year.
Combs also sent $25.8 million to special purpose taxing districts, up 22.5 percent compared to June a year ago. They are up 23 percent for the year.
