Ivey, ‘Restoration’ guests at Saturday’s Milano Opry

T he Milano Opry will hit the stage on Saturday night at

Milano High School. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m. Guest this month are Dennis Ivey and a family group called “Restoration.”

Opr y volunteers w ill ser ve hamburgers and barbecue sandwiches, as well as those famouse homemade pies, at the concession stand. House band members are Billy Barnett, Ab Woods, Michael Herod, Michael Wall, Johnny Foster, Will Fountain, Jeanette Shackelford and Lynn Martin.

It’s that time of year again. The 73rd annual Lagrone Family Reunion is set for Friday through Sunday at the Norine Lagrone home off County Road 346. Friday is “workers day” with a fish fry that night, followed by hot dogs and homemade ice cream on Saturday night.

Sunday’s covered dish lunch is a free-for-all with tons of barbecue to eat, just bring some side dishes and come visit with the family. There are usually some basketball, volleyball, softball, horseshoe and domino games played as well.

This weekend involves a lot of hard work the weeks prior by family members getting the grounds ready and making sure everything is in place. This is also the first reunion since the matriarch of the family, Claude’s mother Norine, passed away. It will be bittersweet.

The Milano Evening Lions Club is having a fruit and vegetable stand on Tuesdays and Fridays this summer from 8-11 a.m. in the lot between the Bailey Bank Building and Milano Post Office. They will be selling all kinds of local produce. Go help out this worthy organization.

A benefit is planned for the American Diabetes Society in honor of the late C.W. Coldiron. He had suffered from diabetes since he was a child. The event is set for Saturday, June 23, at Nat’s. The day will include a bike run, live auction, horseshoe tournament, 50/50 drawing, a DJ dance and barbecue plates for sale.

Plates will be available for $7 in advance and $8 the day of event. They will be ready at 11:30 a.m. that day. The bike run is $20 per rider, $25 if you have a passenger. The first bike will leave out at 9 a.m. and the last bike will return at 4 p.m.

A Milano Scholarship Fundraiser Cruise will set sail on Oct. 22 for five days from Galveston. Milano Former Students Association’s scholarship fund receives $100 per cabin booked on this cruise.

The Milano Ex-Students Association reunion and luncheon will be held Saturday, Sept. 15 at Milano High School. A catered meal will be served at noon. It is also the 50th anniversary of the Class of 1962. For more information on the reunion, contact Carolyn Hafley, 512-455-2473.

Get the pom- poms ready because it’s also time for rahr ah cheer camp at Milano ISD. Young girls grades Pre- K through fifth are invited to attend the camp that runs July 12-13 at the high school gym. Cost is $30 per girl. Camp will run from 8:30-11:30 a.m. both days.
